Hummus With A Kick!

Hummus is one of my favorite things to make and eat. It always reminds me of hanging out at my friends house in high school. Her mom would always have hummus and tabbouleh on hand and we would eat it with pita. Oh it was so good.

After college I decided to start making my own and realized how easy it is. I finally developed a recipe that checked all the boxes for me. Delicious and spicy!

In a food processor:

14oz can Garbanzo beans (chickpeas) (save some of the can liquid on the side)

2 cloves of garlic

2 Tbsp olive oil

2 Tbsp tahini

1/4 cup (fresh) lemon juice

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Paprika for garnish

Blend in the food processor until smooth. Add chickpea liquid to thin out to desired consistency.

Optional: you can peel the shells off the chickpeas to create a smoother consistency of the hummus

I dig a spicy zing with hummus. The cayenne really gives it a kick and it’s good for you. Cayenne contains capsaicin which has anti-inflammatory properties and can increase your metabolism by increasing the burning of calories up to 20 minutes after a meal- burning- heat- get it?

When I meal prep, I usually do a double batch and make a warm bowl with roasted veg, rice, chicken and the hummus as the sauce/dressing. This makes for a protein rich meal that will keep you full for a long time.

Hummus is such an easy dip to get creative with. If you like it more garlicky- add more garlic! Like lemon? Double the lemon juice. You can add roasted veggies or use different beans to add variety, color and flavor. The possibilities are endless! What is your favorite way to enjoy hummus?
